Prelude in A flat major
op. 35 Nr. 4(a) U 108 (1837)
There has been no single composer able to create such beautiful music in the rocking 6/8 time signature as Mendelssohn. The Prelude in A flat major takes the form of a tender duet accompanied by a constantly bubbling stream of semiquavers. The work has much in common with the third movement from the fourth organ sonata in B flat major, opus 65/4, MWV W 59.
