Psalm 42
Psalm 42 vs. 3, 4 en 5 - op. 42 A 15/2 en 3
Mendelssohn composed his original setting of Psalm 42 for choir, soloists and orchestra during his honeymoon in the Black Forest in 1837. In the first aria, two solo voices (originally soprano and oboe) conduct a dialogue. A second, quicker aria follows a recitative. The work could be described as ‘Romantic Bach’ in its composition and musical idiom.
