BWV 127/3
Aria (S) Die Seele ruht in Jesu Händen - 1725 - Estomihi
In the soprano aria Die Seele ruht in Jesu Händen the staccato accompaniment gives voice to the ‘Sterbeglocken’ (funeral bells) of which the text speaks. At the (sound of the) actual word Bach even intensifies the ringing by means of a subtle movement in semi-quavers. Two beautifully entwining wonderful melodies float over this imitation of the bells.
