BWV 21/1
Sinfonia Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis - 1714 - Trinity III
The instrumental opening of cantata 21 Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis is like an opera overture in which the atmosphere of the story is set. Supported by a calmly proceeding bass, the oboe and violin 1 conduct a dialogue in which acquiescence can be heard.
In style, the composition is comparable to a slow middle movement of a solo concerto (e.g. the adagio from the oboe concerto in D minor, opus 9/2 by Tomaso Albinoni).
