Chorale Prelude Herr Jesu Christ, ich weiß gar wohl v. 3 - 1724 - Cantate
The third movement from Cantata 166 Wo gehest du hin?, for ‘Cantate’ Sunday, the fourth Sunday after Easter, is a chorale arrangement of the third verse of the hymn Herr Jesu Christ, ich weiß gar wohl by Bartholomäus Ringwaldt (1582). The cantus firmus is heard in long note values surrounded by powerful motifs. This in order to evoke the text of verse three: Ich bitte dich, Herr Jesu Christ / halt mich bei den Gedanken (‘I pray to Thee, Lord Jesus Christ / Keep me in Thy thoughts’).
