BWV 171/1
Fugue Gott, wie dein Name, so ist auch dein Ruhm - 1729 - New Year
A radiant fugue in the stile antico in C major, probably composed for New Year’s Day, 1729. Bach reused the material, in a slightly varied form, in the Symbolum Nicenum from the Mass in b minor (BWV 232); Patrem omnipotentem, factorem coeli et terrae, visibilium et invisibilium. Both works express the idea of God’s all-encompassing omnipotence.
