BWV 97/1
Ouverture / Vivace super Nun ruhen alle Wälder - 1734
canto fermo in soprano
After a stately French Ouverture (with its charateristic dotted rhythms) there follows a quick movement in four voices, plus the cantus firmus (whose melody is best known as “O Welt, ich muss dich lassen”). In contrast to the traditional form of the French Ouverture, there is no concluding reprise of the initial dotted material.
